Build a Social Media App

Create a small posting web app and verify how records, profiles, and screen updates behave.

Build a small posting app with a feed, a form for a new post, and a profile or author display. Start with sample data and a clear read/write journey before adding public signups or private messages.

This is an app-building tutorial. It is separate from Social in the workspace, which manages connected social channels and their content.

1. Start the project

  1. Open Apps and create a project.
  2. Choose the Social Media project template.
  3. Name the project and create it.
  4. Review its screens and existing actions in Pages.

A template supplies a starting structure. It does not prove that user accounts, live messaging, or moderation are already configured for your app.

2. Prepare a simple data model

Open Backend → AppStruct and create a database if necessary. For an initial sample, create a posts table with a Text body field and an appropriate author-display field. Add a few sample posts to test the feed.

Decide which information can be public and which belongs to a signed-in user before adding personal data. Column permissions provide separate view and edit choices; review them independently of which buttons are visible.

3. Build the feed and composer

Use Empty List with text and media components for the feed. Add a screen containing a Text Area and a Button labeled Publish post. Use a Profile Card or text elements for a simple author display when useful.

Connect navigation between the feed and composer. Make the empty-feed state helpful and check long posts, missing images, and narrow screens.

4. Wire one complete interaction

Configure Get row to supply the feed and map returned fields into its item template. Configure Add row on Publish post and map the Text Area into the post body.

Verify the new row in Backend. Then check how the feed obtains the latest result after returning from the composer. Do not assume that every open feed updates live just because a post was saved.

If the app needs accounts, configure Registration, Authentication, and the relevant permissions as a separate flow. Get Current User can map user fields into components or local storage, but displaying an author field is not a record-access rule.

5. Verify the browser release

Use Preview to create and reopen a sample post. Test an empty submission, an unavailable request, and another browser view.

Publish Web App, wait for success, and repeat the checks at the HTTPS address. Add messaging, live-update behavior, and moderation only as explicitly configured and tested features.
