Connect through APIs and MCP

Use scoped API keys to work with Docs, Sheets, and Slides from your own tools.

Choose the product you want to connect

Docs, Sheets, and Slides each have an API & MCP section. REST APIs let your code make HTTP requests. MCP lets a compatible assistant discover and use the product's tools. Both use API keys from the relevant product console.

ProductKeysReferenceAssistant setup
DocsDocs keysDocs referenceConnect Docs
SheetsSheets keysSheets referenceConnect Sheets
SlidesSlides keysSlides referenceConnect Slides

The references can be read without an account. Sign in to create a key, connect an assistant, or send a request against your own work. Use the live reference for supported operations and current limits.

Create a scoped key

  1. Open API & MCP from the product library and select Keys.
  2. Choose Create API key and give the key a recognizable name, such as Reporting script.
  3. Select only the permissions the integration needs. Start with read access when you are exploring.
  4. Choose an expiration and create the key.
  5. Copy the secret when it is revealed. Afterward, the key list shows its identifying prefix rather than revealing the secret again.

Store the secret in your own secret manager or integration settings. If you no longer have a key, create a replacement and revoke the old one rather than expecting the console to show its secret again.

Understand permissions

ProductPermissionWhat it permits
DocsRead documentsList, read, and search documents.
DocsWrite documentsCreate, insert or delete text, and rename.
SheetsRead spreadsheetsList spreadsheets and read values and formatting.
SheetsWrite valuesChange values and add or remove sheets, leaving protected ranges intact.
SheetsWrite protected rangesAdditional permission to write into protected ranges; requires Write values too.
SlidesRead presentationsList, read, and search presentations, including speaker notes.
SlidesWrite presentationsCreate presentations, edit and arrange slides, and rename.

Docs and Slides find-and-replace operations need read access as well as write access. Full access includes all permissions, including future ones; it is broader than a specific permission list.

Connect an assistant

Open Connect an assistant, choose your MCP client, and use the instructions generated there. The setup supports clients such as Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, and other compatible MCP clients. Use the product's own endpoint and key; a Docs key is not a general key for every AppStruct tool.

The available tools follow the key's permissions. Start with a read operation to confirm that the assistant can see the intended documents, spreadsheets, or presentations before allowing changes.

Check activity and limits

The console shows key status, usage information, and the account's API quota. Check the current reference and quota when a request is refused. Expired or revoked keys must be replaced; a retry cannot restore their access. Revoke an integration's key when you stop using it.
